First Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Gastronomy Forum

The Forum, which is hosted yearly by UN Tourism and the Basque Culinary Center (BCC), an affiliate member, has gained international recognition and is now slated to make its regional debut. With the support of the Philippine government, this first regional edition aims to bring together professionals and member nations committed to strengthening the role of culinary tourism in destination development.

A Ministerial debate will be held by the Forum to talk about measures that will develop the region’s culinary tourism plan.

A panel discussion will address creative tactics with examples from Japan, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka, highlighting the necessity of maintaining regional customs and safeguarding the land and goods for the growth of sustainable gastronomic tourism. Along with Lionel Dabbadie, the FAO representative for the Philippines, representatives from JTB Corporation, the largest travel agency in Japan, and representatives from Jeju Tourism Organization (Republic of Korea), the event will also welcome the participation of destinations and experts actively engaged in the advancement of gastronomy tourism as a tool for social inclusivity. These experts and destinations include UN Tourism Ambassador Chef Margarita Fores and Chef Vicky Cheng from Hong Kong (China).

Furthermore, in a continuous endeavor to advance sustainability, attendees will delve into economical and ecologically sound methods to optimize the utilization of regional ingredients and reduce food waste via preventive measures, circularity, and climate change mitigation initiatives in the culinary tourism industry.

This Forum, which is expected to draw 200 people, will also be televised live. Enrollment will be accepted till June 16, 2024.
